This is the male American Goldfinch.

And, this is the female American Goldfinch. The Goldfinches eat Niger or Thistle seed and the ever popular Safflower and Sunflower. Having some room between the various feeders seems to be important, as the birds will bully each other to get at the food. The smaller birds, like the finches, need to feel safe from the more aggressive birds.

I finally got a picture of our male and female Goldfinches. The are very fast and cautious. As you can see, they also love the safflower seeds (the white ones). Seems to be the preferred menu item for most of our visitors.
